M°BA 13: FETISHISM IN FASHION is a series of exhibitions and events that highlight the obsessive and ritualistic bonds we have with fashion and accessories.FETISHISM IN FASHION’s main exhibition will be brought to life at MºBA CENTRAAL through 13 thematic rooms that illustrate captivating and wide-ranging definitions of fetishism. Shamanism, nudism, infantilism, legendism, patriotism and absurdism are just some of the keywords from the exhibitions.
“We are all born in bondage, a cord wrapped around our baby body” -Lidewij Edelkoort
LIDEWIJ EDELKOORT – What’s most exciting about this biennial is that we will explore how the instinctive and shamanistic form of fetish will fuse with the sexually-charged. This cross-over area is where I think we will go next: this century will be all about the blending of opposites, and the merging of the sexual with the spiritual will become an important new current. We are only at the beginning!
Next to the main exhibition the brand new M°BA CENTRAAL will be home to a multi-media MOOD ROOM, showing a selection of art, photography, film and footage illustrating the essence of fetishism and shoe exposition ELEVATION. ELEVATION can be best seen as the shoe collection that makes SJP’s shoe collection feel as dated as Myspace. The exhibition is focused on our on going obsession with gaining height, displaying heels, platform, wedges and stilts from historical times to today’s most contemporary and imaginative designs from, Christian Louboutin, Iris van Herpen for United Nude, Maison Martin Margiela, Prada, Jean Paul Gaultier and Vivienne Westwood.
The rich exhibition is a treat for the fashion profession and easy accessible for the big crowd. With work from great designers such as: Walter van Beirendonck, Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano for Christian Dior Couture, Craig Green, Iris van Herpen, Bas Kosters, Maison Martin Margiela, Issey Miyake, Moschino, Rick Owens, Prada, Gareth Pugh, Viktor & Rolf, Vivienne Westwood and Yohji Yamamoto as well as work from young talented designer from all over the world, it’s a must see for everyone interested in fashion.
