One of the highlights during AFW was the show of MaryMe-JimmyPaul. The young designers Marie Burlot en Jimmy Paul who founded the label in 2008 make fashion that floats between art and fashion. Their very first show during Amsterdam Fashion Week wasn't an acceptation to this philosophy. The entertaining collection contained interesting shapes, a very rich and colorful color pallet, and lots and lots of feathers.
The collection and show itself were very entertaining to see. After two mediocre shows that day watching the MaryMe-JimmyPaul show made me feel like Honey Boo Boo getting pixel sticks before a pageant contest, exited, energetic and semi-tripping. I also really liked how the audience was engaged in the show by getting the chance to vote the looks that came on the runway by using a specially designed APP.
The designer duo takes their inspiration from their own created stories, worlds, people and view on the current (and past) pop culture. Next to that the duo is constantly trying to push the boundaries of shape, textures and colors, raising eyebrows with their big, sculptural works that will provoke feelings with the viewers. Showing us bits of the humorous, bizarre, grandiose fantasy fashion world of MaryMe-JimmyPaul.
I can only imagine the unbearable desire most cosplay fanatics will feel to own this collection while viewing it.
