“There should be no lines — I learned that from Comme des Garçons,” explains Williams when asked to describe the process of making his new fragrance. He continues to explain the reason behind choosing _G I R L _ as the name for his debut fregrance. " We just found another way to say unisex,” as the 41-year-old explains during an interview with WWD.
He continues to explain that when he was young, he used Ralph Laurent’s Polo for which he says it was "really cool" at that time. Later he used Dior’s Fahrenheit because it was so different from other fragrance at that time. Afterwards the singer did not wear any perfume for 15 years. It was when meeting Sarah Andelman, founder and creative director of Parisian Colette made him think differently about fragrances. When he smelled the perfume she was wearing and asked her what that scent was, and she answered it was Wonderwood by CDG. From that moment on, Pharrell has been, as he says himself, in love with Comme des Garcons!
No wonder an important requirement for his own Comme fragrance — other than that it had to be unisex — was that it would have to have a woody smell. “I was enamored by [Comme’s] ability to deliver wood to the masses in the way that they have,” he expresses.
Besides base note cedarwood, the fragrance features top notes of neroli, lavender and white pepper; middle ones of iris, styrax and violet, and completing base notes vetiver, patchouli and sandalwood.
